Ahh sweet summertime! The days are long, the sun is shining and the drinks are chilled. No place better to spend your time than at the beach. One of my favorite things about New Jersey is its beautiful coastline. From Sandy Hook all the way down south to Cape May, you can enjoy miles of boardwalk, sand and sunsets. We found ourselves at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area to meet up with one of our brides and her fiancé for their engagement session. Amanda and Mike found us at the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, excited and ready to begin our session. The sun was perfectly hidden behind the lighthouse, giving us some dreamy, glowy light. Amanda and Mike effortlessly smiled and posed for us, clearly having a great time in each other's arms. As we explored that area a bit further we found a magical little forested area that the setting sun was peeking playfully through, giving us some backlight to die for! We were even joined momentarily by some passing deer friends, who were unfortunately too camera shy to pose with us! The best part about shooting in locations that you've been before, is being able to explore and discover new areas. After passing abandoned barracks and cannons further out on the peninsula, we stumbled upon the most perfect brick building covered in ivy and surrounded by tall grass. We were all super excited and inspired by this, as it fit the exact style Amanda had dreamt about for their engagement photos. This super photogenic couple looked like they could have been on a magazine cover shoot, as they romantically sat and cuddled each other and then walked around the grounds. We snapped away, one photo more perfect than the next! To get the most ideal summer sunset light we saved our beach photos for the end of our session, which could not have been more perfect! The sky lit up in dreamy pastels, soft white sand beneath our feet, and the waves crashing on the shore, all set the stage for some super romantic shots. Amanda and Mike walked the coast hand in hand, and flirted with the always unruly ocean waves. One rogue wave caught Mike by surprise and completely soaked his shoes! He was totally unfazed - what a guy! We had such a blast spending the evening with Amanda and Mike, and by the end of the session we were laughing like old friends. We cannot wait to capture their magical wedding day in just a few short months this fall at Fernbrook Farms.
